SKC takes part in the SK Group’s blood donation campaign
● The SK Group started the blood donation campaign in May amid the difficult situation caused by COVID-19.
● Employees of SKC and its investee businesses (SK nexilis, SK Picglobal, and SKC Hi-Tech & Marketing) have taken part in the campaign
SKC (President Lee, Wan-jae) has taken part in the blood donation campaign started by the SK Group to provide support for efforts to overcome the difficult situation caused by COVID-19.
On July 27, employees of SKC and its investee businesses (SK nexilis, SK Picglobal, SKC Hi-Tech & Marketing, and MCNS) gathered at the SKC headquarters building in Jongno-gu, Seoul to take part in said campaign.
According to the Korean Red Cross, the amount of blood it kept as of July is only good for 4.4 days, falling short of the five days’ worth of blood that is considered to be an adequate amount. Young people like students used to account for about 70% of blood donors, but the COVID-19 situation came to have a negative impact on them. The Korean Red Cross is asking for people’s blood donation, and private businesses and public institutions strive to lend a helping hand to it, but the situation is rather gloomy.
The SK Group has emphasized the importance of a new safety net for society, which is facing difficulties due to the pandemic. It regards the supply of blood to people who need it as part of the safety net, so it has engaged in the blood donation campaign since May.
SKC allowed the Korean Red Cross to set up an area for blood donation on the sixth floor of its headquarters building in Jongno-gu, Seoul. There, SKC employees are encouraged to donate blood after going through an electronic inquiry about their health conditions, via Red Connect as the world’s first health management app for blood donors, and through the homepage of the Blood Management Headquarters of the Korean Red Cross.
“We sincerely hope that our employees’ participation in blood donation will be of help to those who need it. We will continue to look for ways to communicate with people to overcome the COVID-19 situation and contribute to the social safety network,” an SKC official said.
