SKC (President: Woncheol Park) initiated a nationwide resource circulation training for elementary school students using My Green Place, a game-type platform for waste sorting, the first of its kind in South Korea.

SKC will be holding ‘Go! Waste Sorting Hero,’ a training program of resource circulation and environment for elementary school students, starting with Uljin Community Child Center in Uljin-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, on October 27, followed by Gyeongju-si in Gyeongsangbuk-do and Dangjin-si in Chungcheongnam-do the following month. The training consists of learning about plastic materials and how to sort and dispose of them properly, after which learners will have hands-on experience of waste sorting.

My Green Place is a game-type information platform for waste sorting, the first of its kind in South Korea which was released by SKC earlier in April. When a product barcode is scanned with the App, users can have a quick look at the information displayed regarding plastic materials such as PET and PE that were hard to understand before, and learn how the materials are recycled. The App is useful also for educational purposes because users can have fun learning about waste sorting by answering quizzes. In particular, the App seems to be well received as a tool that can _ create_ an ESG bond beyond generations between children and parents who use the App.

Children at Uljin Community Child Center were the first to participate in the training on October 27 and learned about the impact of plastics on environmental pollution and considered in what way each of them can practice waste sorting. In the case of different waste sorting measures for different materials that are easily confusing, children checked it out themselves on My Green Place. When the children were asked by the instructor about how to reduce environmental pollution, they raised their hand to present their own practical suggestions such as using multi-use containers and recycling used items.

SKC Manager Song Hee-won who was the training instructor said, “Children actively participated in the training, showing a great interest in waste and environmental issues. It was a meaningful time for me to meet the alpha generation and let them learn eco-friendly practices. The instructor pool for ‘Go! Waste Sorting Hero’ will be filled up through talent donation of relevant experts in addition to SKC members.

SKC will expand the resource circulation training program for full national coverage in the second half in collaboration with SK Group’s Happy Alliance. Training will continue next month in Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do and Dangjin-si, Chungcheongnam-do. SKC will also seek expanded use of the training as an educational program together with various outside stakeholders.
