- SKC Chairman Chey Shin-won, 110 staff members from two companies plant 2,400 larch tree seedlings
- 2,400 newly planted larch trees to produce 230-ton cut in CO2 over 40 years

Chairman Chey Shin-won of SKC and SK telesys and staff members from the two affiliates held a “Happy Tree-Planting” event on April 7 on the occasion of the Arbor Week, during which they planted 2,400 larch trees in Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province, in partnership with the National Coalition for Forest of Life.

The tree-planting event, which was organized jointly by SKC and SK telesys, was attended by more than 120 people, including 110 staff members from the two companies, and over 10 people from the coalition. Participants planted 2,400 larch trees on an 8,000 sq.-meter plot of land in Toechon-myeon, Gwangju City.

The 2,400 larch trees planted on the day will spawn a 230-ton reduction in carbon dioxide over the next 40 years, and help improve water quality and prevent landslides, thus generating economic benefits worth over 2.8 million won per year.

Recognizing the importance of environment-focused management, SKC and SK telesys selected an environmental event as their first joint corporate social responsibility activity. The two companies also plan to proactively participate in national efforts to cut carbon emissions through eco-friendly campaigns, including the cleaning of surrounding areas, when they individually conduct community services in the future.

SKC Chairman Chey Shin-won said, “Starting with environment-related activities this year, including tree-planting events, we will conduct corporate social responsibility activities targeting diverse walks of life, including the underprivileged and people with disabilities.” Chey added, “Going forward, staff members at SKC and SK telesys will remember the meaning of sharing and co-prosperity, and take the lead in the effort to share happiness with members of our society as responsible corporate citizens.”

Staff members at SKC and SK telesys have been conducting diverse corporate social responsibility activities. These activities include joint events, including a campaign to preserve cultural legacies at Hwaseonghaeng-gung palace in Suwon, cleaning of the Seoul National Cemetery, and kimchi-making, as well as individual events, including assistance for the underprivileged, including people at welfare facilities and disabled people, blood donation campaigns, charity bazaars, and stream-cleaning campaigns.
