On April 18, Chairman Chey Shin-won of SKC and SK Telesys, staff members from the two companies, and residents in Jeongja 1-dong neighborhoods in Suwon City joined forces to conduct a “Happy Sharing Seoho-cheon Campaign” to plant 5,800 trees, including evergreen trees, deciduous trees, and flowering trees on slopes by the Seoho-cheon Stream in Jeongja-dong, Jangan district, in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.

The campaign was coordinated jointly by SKC, SK Telesys, and a steering committee for the Jeongja 1-dong beautification initiative in Suwon. Participating in the event were more than 180 people, including Chairman Chey, Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young, Chairman of Suwon City Council, staff members from the two companies, local residents, and officials from the Gyeonggi chapter of the Community Chest Korea and the Suwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who rolled up their sleeves to a clean environment. The participants planted more than 5,800 trees, including evergreen bushes, such as nandinas and sargent junipers, and deciduous trees, such as azalea trees, bridal wreath, and grandiflora, while conducting activities to beautify the environment.

SKC, which operates a plant and a research center in Jeongja-dong, Suwon, has been conducting a campaign to improve the environment at Seocho-cheon Stream since 2008. From this year, its subsidiary SK Telesys is also joining the campaign as the two companies plan to provide far-reaching assistance and conduct activities to develop Seoho-cheon into a clean park for local residents, as well as carry out activities to improve the environment, including the drawing of wall paintings and creation of benches in the park.

By taking into account the importance of the environment, SKC and SK Telesys selected the environmental campaign as their first corporate social responsibility activity. Going forward, the companies also plan to proactively conduct eco-friendly activities, including the beatification of the surrounding areas, when individually implementing CSR activities.

SKC Chairman Chey Shin-won said, “We have been conducting environment-related activities, including tree planting, for six consecutive years through this year.” He added, “When I was inaugurated as the Chairman of the Suwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently, I planned to take the lead in creating a good environment for living, as well as advance the economy in the city, and I am very pleased that we have a chance to put my plan into practice with local residents through this opportunity. Going forward, we will not only engage in environmental protection activities, but also carry out far-reaching CSR activities that will benefit people in diverse walks of life, including the underprivileged and the disabled, on top of our environmental campaigns.

Meanwhile, executives and staff members of SKC and SK Telesys jointly conducted various activities, including a campaign to protect the cultural properties at Hwaseong Haenggung Palace in Suwon, cleaning of the National Cemetery, and kimchi making, last year. The two companies have also individually conducted various other CSR activities, including the support of the underprivileged, blood donation campaigns, charity bazaars, and the cleaning of streams.
