Choi Sin Won, Chairman of SKC and chairman of the Korea Brazil Society (KOBRAS), paid a courtesy call on Vice President Michel Temer of Brazil in the vice president’s office in Brazilia, the capital city of Brazil, on the afternoon of June 6, 2014.

During the meeting, Chairman Choi discussed advancing economic ties between the two countries and specifically requested Vice President Temer to provide support and assistance to about 5,000 Korean Brazilians residing in Brazil so they can perform economic activities in harmony with the local community and play a greater role in the economic development and growth of Brazil.

Chairman Cho said “As Honorary Consul to Brazil and president of KOBRAS, I will do my best to further enhance the amicable relationship between Brazil and Korea” and conveyed the best wishes to the government and people of Brazil for a successful 2014 Brazil World Cup. He also wished the Korean Team good luck.

The courtesy call was made at the invitation of Vice President Michel Temer during his visit to Korea in March 2012 to attend 2012 Nuclear Security Summit held in Korea on behalf of President Dilma Rousseff. During his stay in Korea, Vice President Termer met with KOBRAS Chairman Choi and instantly invited to him to visit Brazil at any time, and Chairman Choi accepted the invitation.

Chairman Cho has actively initiated a wide range of economic, social and cultural exchange programs between the two countries since he took office as the first president of KOBRAS in June 2011, and was appointed as the Honorary Consul to Brazil in January 2012.

In the meantime, Chairman Choi attended the ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of immigration held in Sao Paulo and executed an MOU with Sao Paulo Investment Promotion Authority to promote the economic cooperation between Brazil and Korea.

Korea Brazil Society represented by Chairman Choi Shin Young is a private entity organized in June 2011 for the purpose of promoting the cooperative and amicable relationship between Brazil and Korea in economic, social, cultural and sports areas. KOBRAS is a non-profit organization officially registered in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
