Chairman Choi Hosts Dinner Party for Women’s Handball Team
Delivered KRW100 million as special bonus to the national team for winning the Women`s Junior U20 World Championships
A great victory achieved in competition with strong European teams
Chairman Choi promised a continous support to handball

Choi Shin Won, Chairman of SKC, hosted a dinner party for the Korean women’s handball team that won the first gold medal in Women`s Junior World Championships, at 7:00 p.m. at Walkerhill, Seoul.

The dinner party was attended by 30 pesons inlcuding Chairman Choi, Kim Jong Shik, CEO of SK Telesys, Han Jung Gyu, Vice Chairman of Korea Handball Federation, Lee Gye Chung, Team Manager and members of the national team. In a congratulatory speech, Chairman Choi said, “We are very proud of you. You have made your dream come true. It’s like the miracle we saw in “the Best Moment of Our Lives” (a movie that fictionalized account of the Korea women's handball team which won the silver medal in women's handball at the 2004 Summer Olympics). You made history not only winning the first gold medal, but becoming the first ever non-European Women’s Junior Champions. 14 out of 24 teams that entered in the comeptition were from Europe, and you broke the the European phalanx and won the championship. We are proud of all the p s who fought so hard and made it happen.“

Chairman Choi said, “The victory would not have been possible without the hard work and support from the coaching staff led by Manager Lee and Korea Handball Federation,” and conveyed KRW100 million as a special bonus, adding “you gave joy and pride to people.”

After three silver medals in this age category in 1985, 1989 and 1991, Women’s Junior Team advanced to the final match in 23 years after 1991, and beated unbeaten team Russia. They made history not only winning their first ever gold medal, but becoming the first ever non-European Women’s Junior Champions.

As the oldest brother of SK Group, Chairman Choi has provided unsparing support and assistance to the national handball team including hosting a dinner party for the women’s national team when they remained in 4th place in London Olympics in 2012.

SK Group has been sponsoring the Handball Korea League, a semi-professional handball leadgue in Korea, since 2011. The league is hosted at the SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium, within the Olympic Park. In 2011 the former 'Olympic Fencing Gymnasium' was remodel for handball games, specialized with handball only courts. SK Group makes all other efforts to make more people play and enjoy handball.
