SKC Chairman Choi Shin-won Receives Plaque of Appreciation from the Minister of National Defense
Chairman cited for his active contribution to national security
Receives honor for second time after 2013

SKC Chairman Choi Shin-won received a plaque of appreciation from the Minister of National Defense for his continued interest in and support for national security, including his provision of assistance to military units such as the Marine Corps, and his support for military servicemen and women.

At the award ceremony held at his office on the afternoon of March 5, Chairman Choi was presented with the plaque by Commander Lee Yeong-ju of the Republic of Korea Marine Corps (ROKMC), who visited him on behalf of the Minister of National Defense Han Min-koo.

Chairman Choi visited military personnel of the Army, Navy and Air Force at frontier, border and hinterland areas jointly with executives and staff of SK Group, offering gifts and encouragement for their faithful service since 2008, as well as carrying out diverse activities to support national security on separate twenty-two occasions.

Choi Sung-hwan, Vice President of SKC and the son of Chairman Choi, also served in the Marine Corps, so both father and son are famous for their service for two generations as marines. Indeed, Chairman Choi has often been seen urging executives and staff to “overcome business difficulties in the spirit of the Marine Corps.”

SKC formed a sisterhood relationship with the Marine Corps in 2010, but even prior to that Chairman Choi had provided diverse types of assistance to the Marine Corps on an ongoing basis, including making financial gifts to Marine Corps units and donating funds for the construction of a combat leadership training site for 1st Marine Division.

Chairman Choi said on the day, “I have been putting into practice my belief that without national security, no companies or citizens can exist,” adding, “I will continue making my contributions to the country as an entrepreneur of the Republic of Korea.”

Chairman Choi also received a plaque of appreciation from the Defense Minister for the assistance he provided to military units in 2013.
