● HAPPIEST, SKC’s pro bono team, began activities aimed at spreading social values; SKC Pro Bono Team is assembled for the first time.

● Company employees completed the installations after teaching themselves how to install window films In the near future, the employees plan to pursue other activities such as providing assistance to social enterprises.

SKC (CEO Lee Wan Jae) assembled its first Pro Bono Team and launched its first activities. Pro bono refers to an activity in which a professional provides his or her expertise and capabilities for social and public benefit without asking for payment.

The first batch of SKC’s Pro Bono Team, called HAPPIEST, consisted of 17 people. On October 22, the first batch joined the Habitat for Humanity Korea’s ‘House Building Hope Project’ site in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do Province to install window film in 12 households. For perfect installations, members of the SKC Pro Bono Team brought along window film installation experts to learn the proper installation techniques.

The film used on this day was 'SK Home Care Film,' a window film product by SKC for architectural applications. The film has a heat resistance rate of up to 75%. The film is capable of reducing the air-conditioning costs in the summer by up to 21%, which can greatly help tenants reduce their electric bills. In addition, the film prevents ultraviolet A radiation that causes skin cancer by blocking out 100% of the rays. The ultraviolet radiation blocking also has the added effect of reducing the color fading of indoor furniture and curtains.

Since last year, SKC has been working to expand social values. Last year, it signed an agreement with Habitat for Humanity Korea to start a project called ‘Happy Windows made by SKC-Habitat for Humanity Korea.’ And in 2017, SKC donated all of the SK Homecare Film used by Habitat for Humanity Korea for its home building/home repair project.

In addition, SKC has partnered with startup incubators like the Ulsan Center for Creative Economy and Innovation in selecting new materials companies with innovative ideas and assisting them with their commercialization. The goal of this endeavor is to support the growth of new companies and develop an ecosystem for the materials industry by leveraging the intangible and tangible resources of SKC. In particular, SKC is actively pursuing efforts to add social values to SKC's business and products.

SKC has formed the Pro Bono Team in order to expand such social values. An SKC representative said, "SKC plans to depart from social contribution efforts that were oriented towards plain volunteering activities and aggressively launch activities that could help solve social problems and increase social values." He added, “One of these activities will be strengthening the role of SKC’s Pro Bono Team to expand social contribution efforts, with social enterprises being a form of such efforts.” [The End]
