SKC completes construction of capacitor polyester film plant with Chinese partner

On December 8, 2006, the construction of the PET film plant built by Anhui Tongae Electronics Materials, a joint venture between SKC (CEO Park Jang Suk) and the Tongfeng Electronics Company, a top Chinese producer of Oriented Polypropylene (OPP), was completed in Anhui Province, China. The plant is currently operating at full capacity. (* PET film: polyester film)

SKC is the first South Korean company to build a film plant in a joint venture with a Chinese partner. This new plant will boost SKC’s presence in China and allow the company to tap the vast growth potential of the Chinese market. With an agreement to transfer technology, SKC received a 25% share (capital investment of $31,250,000) of the jointly-owned company. It is a bold entry into the Chinese market.

With its Suwon plant in Korea, Georgia plant in the U.S. and a new jointly-owned plant in China, SKC has achieved its goal of building a global manufacturing _ base_ for its PET film business. SKC has risen into a global film manufacturer that can compete with leading global companies in terms of quality and marketing prowess. In China, SKC will expand beyond its capacitor PET films to also produce optical films, and PET films for special packaging in China. Through continuous expansion, SKC aims to make its Chinese joint venture into the top PET film producer in China.
