SKC commemorates 32nd foundation anniversary through volunteer activities at Seoul National Cemetery
2008-10-15
SKC (President Park Jang-seok) held volunteer activities at the Seoul National Cemetery on the occasion of the company’s 32nd foundation anniversary on October 15, 2008. The event was attended by more than 200 executives and staff members, including Chairman Chey Shin-won and President Park Jang-seok.
Earlier, SKC forged a sisterhood relationship with the Seoul National Cemetery (Director Woo Seok-kook) to conduct volunteer activities to clean and to contribute flowers twice a year to help continuously maintain the memorial facility. SKC plans to continue tomb cleaning activities at section 19 (911 tombs) at the cemetery, which has been allocated to the company this time, through tombstone cleaning, weeding, and changing of flowers.
Encouraging his staff during the campaign, President Park Jang-seok said, “As we mark SKC’s anniversary, let’s memorialize the great patriotism and spirit of patriots, and remember the meaning of love for our country by carefully cleaning and maintaining the cemetery through volunteer activities.” SKC has been conducting volunteer activities at the cemetery every month since last year. The company also holds an event marking the company’s foundation anniversary at the cemetery every October.
Chairman Chey Shin-won joined other staff in weeding and cleaning activities on the day to lead the company’s social contribution campaign for expressing people’s love for the nation. In September, Chey, who joined the Korean Marine Corps voluntarily and finished his military service — a rarity among top managers of majority stakeholders – visited Seoul Airport, a military airport in Seongnam City south of Seoul, where servicemen were preparing for a national Armed Forces Day event, and donated 100 million won. He also visited the First Division of the Korean Army (Jeonjin unit) at the border with North Korea and handed over gifts and a financial donation earlier this year. He has also been participating in a Marine Corps civilian training course for teaching endurance together with executives and staff members at SKC and SK Telesys since 1998.
The Seoul National Ceremony was established in 1955 in Dongjak-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul to preserve the remains of patriots and honor their patriotism and spirit.
