SKC and SK Telesys announced on December 3 that they held a volunteer event for kimchi-making to “share happiness” with the underprivileged for the year-end season. The kimchi-making event took place at Garumae Farming Experience Village in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, and brought together more than 150 executives and staff from the two firms, including Chairman Chey Shin-won. Kimchi amounting to about 3,000 Chinese cabbages by volume (about 7 tons) and prepared through the volunteer campaign will be donated to children’s meal services and welfare facilities for the underprivileged through the “council of food sharing movements.”
Chairman Chey said, “I hope that our staff’s small contribution and support will help the underprivileged have a warmer winter,” adding, “We will continue to remember the meaning of life, living in harmony with the underprivileged, and take the lead in sharing love with members of our society as a responsible corporate citizen.”
Additionally, SKC decided on the day to donate 15 million won to the Community Chest of Korea. The donation will be used to purchase briquettes for heating assistance for low-income families during the winter season. Chairman Chey was found to be the biggest donor to the Community Chest of Korea among entrepreneurs in November, a development that has become a hot topic of conversation.
Chairman Chey has been participating in all manner of volunteer activities. In September, Chey visited and donated 100 million won to Seoul Airport, a military airport in Seongnam City south of Seoul, and encouraged servicemen there who were preparing for the 60th National Armed Forces Day. Earlier this year, he also visited the First Division of the Korean Army (Jeonjin unit) at the border with North Korea, where he handed out gifts and a financial donation.
