Chairman Chey Shin-won joins ‘Honor Society’

Stands out in helping underprivileged by donating 332 million won over 6 years

SKC Chairman Chey Shin-won became the first among Korean conglomerate heads to join the “Honor Society,” a club of major donors to the Community Chest of Korea. Chairman Chey attended a ceremony to join the club in person by visiting “Nanum (sharing) Village” at the Community Chest of Korea in Jeong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul on December 17.

Beginning with an initial donation of 10 million won in 2003, Chairman Chey has since contributed a combined total of 332 million won to CCK.

Chey also won an Order of Industrial Merit, Gold class, in March for his contributions as a faithful taxpayer. He has also donated kimchi and briquettes to the underprivileged, and provided 200 children from low-income families with scholarships through the “Chey Jong-kun Scholarship Foundation” every year, acting as an exemplary model of philanthropy in Korea.

The “Honor Society,” of which Chairman Chey has become the first conglomerate chief-member, is a club of major donors, including social leaders, who donate more than 100 million won and who live up to the concept of noblesse oblige. CCK formed the club last year to encourage individuals to make large donations to society. During the ceremony, Chairman Chey signed up for his membership in the Honor Society, made a hand printing to be placed at a Hall of Fame for major donors, and received a plaque of appreciation from CCK Chairman Lee Se-joong.

CCK selected Chairman Chey as the “18th Donor of happiness” in a 62-day “Giving Relay,” recognizing Chey’s noblesse oblige. The Giving Relay is a campaign to select and appoint as “Donors of Happiness” (who make society a happier place to live) one person a day (62 in total) for each of the 62 days of the ”Hope 2009 Sharing Campaign,” set to be staged from December 1 to January 31.
