SK Air Gas (CEO: Seo Hyung-sang), a joint venture between SKC (President Park Jang-seok) and Taiyo Nippon Sanso of Japan, held a tape-cutting ceremony to launch an industrial gas plant in Yongjam-dong, Nam-gu in the city of Ulsanat 11 a.m. on April 7.
The ceremony was attended by more than 150 people from Korea and abroad, including Chairman Chey Shin-won and President Park Jang-seok of SKC, President Fudamatsu of Taiyo Nippon Sanso, Ulsan Metropolitan City Mayor Pak Maeng-woo, and Yoon Myung-hee, Chair of the Ulsan City Council.
President Suh Hyung-sang said in his commemorative speech, “SKC Air Gas will do its best to supply economical and stable products to clients,” adding, “In partnership with Taiyo Nippon Sanso, we will proactively advance into the special industrial gas sector, which is growing in Korea and foreign markets, and thereby emerge as a global leader in the gas industry.”
SKC Air Gas entered the industrial gas market on the back of its predictions of a surge in demand for air gases such as oxygen, nitrogen and argon, and special gases used in semiconductors, LCD and solar cells. The company has constructed a 20 km gas pipeline in the Ulsan industrial complex. Also, the company is reportedly supplying liquid products primarily to the Gyeongsang region, including Ulsan City, by tanker trucks.
SKC Air Gas is a joint venture established in June 2007 by SKC, a veteran of chemical plant operations, and Taiyo Nippon Sanso, a world-renowned industrial gas producer. SKC holds an 80-percent stake in the undertaking, and Taiyo Nippon Sanso the remainder.
