President Park Jang-seok received the Prime Minister’s Award, or gold prize, at the Korea Technology Awards 2009, held at the Seoul Grand Intercontinental Hotel on December 15.
The Korea Technology Award recognizes world-leading Korean technologies that exert major economic ripple effects on domestic industries. The award is presented by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy. SKC’s bio-disposable film, which was honored this year, was also selected as one of Korea’s top 10 New Technologies, effectively demonstrating SKC’s R&D prowess.
The bio-disposable film is d with materials extracted from plants. When buried after use, the eco-friendly film turns into soil in less than four months. The film was used in the packaging of Sun Chips of PepsiCo, the U.S. food giant, beginning early this year, the first commercial application of the product in snack packaging. The product is expected to see growing demand amid the global trend of eco-friendliness.
