SKC to Expand Production Line of EVA Sheets for Solar Cells
2010-02-17
SKC, South Korea’s chemicals and film maker, plans to complete a full production line for solar batteries by investing 44.5 billion won ($ 39.21 million) at its Jincheon plant. SKC said Thursday that it has decided to invest 44.5 billion won for building three additional production lines of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) sheets for solar cells at its Jincheon plant located in North Chungcheong Province.
The three additional production lines with its production capacity of 18,000 tons will begin mass production within the first half of 2011. SKC will be equipped with a total production capacity of 24,000 tons by 2011, as one production line at its Suwon plant will be completed by the end of this month.
EVA sheet, one of core materials for solar cells module, is used for making solar cell sheets. The EVA sheet industry, expected to generate an average of over 30 percent growth by 2015, is regarded as a promising business.
SKC will strive to secure a total production capacity of 60,000 tons by constructing six additional production lines with a capacity of 36,000 tons in the global manufacturing centers including the U.S. by 2014. SKC aims to register 300 billion won of revenue and secure a 25 percent of the market share in the world by 2015.
The chemicals and film maker has been producing all types of core materials for solar batteries, including polyester films, fluoride films and EVA sheets. It also plans to begin the production of 50MW scale silicon wafer by one of its affiliates SKC Solmics Corporation. Through such investments, the company is expected to become the only company to produce all the core materials for solar batteries in the world.
