SKC holds ceremony to mark completion of solar power material plant and breaks ground for PET film plant

SKC held a ceremony, on Aug. 15, to mark the completion of a solar cell material plant and the groundbreaking for a high value-added PET film plants in Jincheon, North Chungcheong Province. The event was attended by 200 dignitaries from home and abroad, including SKC Chairman Choi Sin-won, SKC President Park Jang-suk, Rep. Jong Bum-goo and Jincheon County Governor Yu Young-hoon.

The completed plant will produce EVA sheets and back sheets, major solar power components that surround and protect solar cells, allowing for electrical generation in a stable environment and for a longer period of time.

The PET or polyethylene terephthalate film plant, if completed, will churn out high value-added solar and optical film. SKC, the leader in the solar, optical and heat shrinkable film industry, is expected to solidify its leading position in the high value-added film market thanks to the plants in Jincheon.

SKC aims to become global top-tier company by completing 66,000-ton production plant for EVA sheets

With the completion of a new production line in Jincheon, SKC is now capable of churning out about 240,000 tons of EVA sheets. With an additional plant in the U.S. to be completed this September and the continued efforts to build overseas production lines, SKC will be able to see its production capacity expand to 66,000 tons by 2015 to emerge as the world's second largest EVA sheet manufacturer. Meanwhile, SKC completed the construction of a plant capable of producing 5 million square meters of back sheets and now plans to expand its production capacity to 10 million square meters by the end of 2013.

SKC offers a total solution through one-stop solar cell production

SKC currently makes the PET films used in solar cells, PVDF films and EVA sheets, while churning out ingots and wafers for solar cells through SK Solmics. By expanding its production facilities for EVA sheets and building a new plant for back sheets in Jincheon, SKC has emerged as the world's only company that makes all of the major solar cell components. By using such state-of-the-art technologies, SKC will offer a total solution that satisfies diverse customer demands, while contributing to enhancing the overall competitiveness of the nation's solar cell industry.

SKC aims to achieve more than 1 trillion won in solar cell material sales in 2015

"With the completion of one plant and groundbreaking of the solar cell material plant, we have paved the way for SKC to become a global top-tier company. We will continue to make aggressive and swift investments going forward so that we can achieve more than 1 trillion won in sales in the solar cell material sector," SKC President Park Jang-suk said. He also emphasized that SKC will seek not just quantitative growth but also a qualitative leap forward by rolling out many high-tech materials, thus contributing to the overall development of the nation's solar cell industry.
