Completion of EVA sheet plant for solar cells

The completion ceremony for the SKC Georgia plant was held on Sept. 27 by SKC President Park Jang-suk.

More than 100 guests, including SKC Chairman Choi Shin-won; SKC Georgia branch manager Kim Ho-jin; Rick Jeffares, Senator of Georgia; Kimberly Carter, Mayor of Covington; and Kim Hee-beom, Korea’s senior consul to Atlanta, showed up at the ceremony.

With the new plant in operation, SKC will be able to manufacture a wide variety of commodities from polyester films and polyurethane foams to solar battery materials. The plant has been transformed to a comprehensive material complex.

The SKC Georgia plant kicked off its operations in 1999 with the manufacture of polyester film and stepped up to become one of the three largest relevant film makers in the U.S.

Last year, it started producing system polyol, the main ingredient of the polyurethane used as an insulating material and in car interiors. The construction of a solar battery line will help SKC whip its global business to a sprint.

Aiming at global top tier with 66,000 tons of EVA sheet production

The company President Park Jang-suk said that solar power was the only alternative to future fossil fuel or nuclear power. “SKC is capable of developing various applications for solar battery materials thanks to its know-how gained from film technology production. In these days of economic recession, only aggressive investment and the zeal to enhance product quality will boost the company to market dominance,” he said.

Now that the construction of the plant has been completed, SKC will be able to produce 12,000 tons of EVA sheets from two of its lines. With the four existing manufacturing lines in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, and Jincheon, North Chungcheong Province, in Korea, SKC will be able to increase production to 36,000 tons.

The company is also planning to expand five more lines in its overseas plants, which will increase production to 66,000 tons by 2015, some 25 percent of the world market, to place SKC as the world’s No.2 in the industry.

The only company offering a total solution through the packaged production of solar batteries

SKC is the only company in the world manufacturing all of the key materials for solar cells: SKC makes PET film, PVDF and EVA sheets, while SKC Solmics produces ingots and wafers for solar batteries. The company is the only one that deals with the complete range of relevant materials. SKC provides total solutions to its customers thanks to its high technology materials.
