SKC Chairman Chey Shin-won Attends the Completion Ceremony of the Additional PET Production Line in the US

- 4th PET Production Line Will Enable the Company to Independently Produce all Major Products of Its Film Business

- Chairman Chey Says, “SKC Inc. Must Grow into another SKC in the Americas by Expanding Its Business and Exploring New Markets”

SKC Chairman Chey Shin-won visited the plant of SKC Inc. in Georgia, USA at 10am (local time) on the September 30. The visit served as an occasion for Mr. Chey to attend the completion ceremony of a new PET production line and to encourage the local executives and staff members.

The Georgia plant of SKC Inc. has added another PET production line to its three existing ones, which produce PET used for a variety of packages and industrial items, thus securing the capacity to independently produce all the major products of the company’s film business.

After looking around the new production line to check its quality, Mr. Chey expressed his appreciation for the staff’s efforts, saying, “The new line will operate smoothly without any problems thanks to the concerted efforts of executives and staff to ensure its safety and quality.”

During the ceremony celebrating the completion of the 4th production line, Mr. Chey said that few companies in the Americas were likely to have film, photovoltaic and chemical business divisions at the same time, thus emphasizing the need to strengthen each division’s competitiveness and to generate synergistic effects.

Mr. Chey also requested the staff to look for new profit sources including new business items. More specifically, he asked them to look carefully for changes in the market and to transform them into new business opportunities, by pioneering new markets through SKC’s new company-wide projects in the Americas, for example.

“SKC Inc. must move beyond its position as SKC’s US film production _ base_ and grow into another SKC in the Americas,” Mr. Chey concluded. “As well as covering not only the US but also the whole of the Americas, the company must turn to the Central American, South American and European markets. Let’s explore new markets audaciously, by making good use of our business experience in the USA.”

An official from SKC said, “The construction of this new film production line will provide SKC Inc. with the capacity to independently produce all of the major products of its film business in the US,” adding, “This also completes a strategic foothold that will enable SKC to expand its overseas business and implement its global strategies.”

Established in 1996, SKC Inc. held the completion ceremony of its first plant in 1999, and went on to merge with SKC America Inc., to become SKC’s official corporate body in the USA, in 2005. After constructing a system house in 2010 and an EVA production line in 2011, SKC Inc. built this 4th PET production line, successfully accomplishing its third mission of laying the foundations for the large-scale expansion of its business.

1) PET (polyethylene terephthalate): This typical synthetic fiber is now widely used in a wide variety of non-fibered products such as films and bottles.”

2) EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate): This transparent, adhesive and flexible petrochemical is used for shoe soles, coatings, electric wires, hot melt adhesives (hot glue sticks), and back sheets for solar cells.
