SKC and SK Telesys joined forces with the Community Chest of Korea (herein after CCK)’s Gyeonggi Chapter to take part in the ‘2014 SKC-SK Telesys Kimchi-making Event for Sharing Happiness’ in Paju, Gyeonggi-do on November 24.

The ‘Kimchi-making Event for Sharing Happiness’ is one of the major CSR activities conducted jointly by the two firms, in which executives and staff members join hands to make kimchi, an essential side dish in the winter season in Korea, and donate it to underprivileged members of the community. The campaign marks its 9th anniversary this year.

Over 150 people participated in the event, including executives and staff from SKC and SK Telesys, including SKC Chairman Chey Shin-won, employees of CCK’s Gyeonggi Chapter, members of the Suwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and more than 30 other participants including professors and staff of Kyung Hee University and nurses from the Kyung Hee University Healthcare System. They took extra special care to make kimchi with 10,000 napa cabbages (about 25 tons) despite the subzero temperatures.

Notably, faculty and staff of the Kyung Hee Future Committee, on which Chairman Chey serves as a member, foreign students from Kyung Hee University, and nurses from the Kyung Hee University Healthcare System participated in this year’s event, performing acts of sharing in person and showing foreigners the meaning of sharing in Korea.

The event was also joined by singers Hyeon Suk and Namgung Ok-bun and radio host Kim Hye-young, who are currently serving as goodwill ambassadors of the CCK’s Gyeonggi Chapter.

At the event, Chairman Chey Shin-won said, “While farmers are facing severe difficulties due to the plunge in the price of cabbages, many households still cannot afford to make kimchi due to the economic situation,” adding, “I hope that we can make kimchi in a cheerful mood, while remembering the significance of today’s activities, so that we can share what we can with underprovided people and feel warmhearted.”

Meanwhile, executives and staff members took a cooking lesson to learn how to make tasty kimchi from an invited cook prior to the opening of the event, in order to deliver delicious high-quality kimchi to people in need.

The kimchi will be delivered to needy members of the community, including residents of social welfare facilities in Gyeonggi-do and local health centers in Suwon, and the elderly residents of tiny rental homes in Seoul’s Dongdaemun district through CCK’s Gyeonggi Chapter.
