SKC Chairman Choi Shin-won has been appointed as the third Chairman of the Korea Trademark & Design Association (KOTA), a non-profit organization.

KOTA held its fourth regular general assembly meeting for 2015 at the Sheraton Grande Walker-Hill Hotel in Seoul at 12 noon on February 27 with more than 30 people including guests and members in attendance, and elected Chairman Choi by a unanimous vote of its members.

In his inaugural speech, Chairman Choi said, “I have limited ability, but I will do my best to ensure that the association grows and develops further during my three-year term in office,” adding, “I believe that the first step toward establishing an environment in which companies’ knowledge asset-_ base_d management is galvanized is to recognize the importance of intellectual property rights and the need for their protection. As such, I will place great emphasis on projects to that end.”

Chairman Choi, who has been inaugurated as the third Chairman again after the second time in 2013, will serve his three-year term to lead the association from this year.

Under his leadership, the association held an international trademark and design forum between Korea, China and Japan in Seoul, and sought proactive exchanges with the relevant overseas organizations last year. The organization also plans to hold an international forum and a meeting of private sector organizations from Korea, China and Japan in Seoul in this year’s second half as well.

Established in 2010, KOTA is a non-profit organization that conducts various activities including education and training, seminars, international forums, publication of journals, and the submittal of proposals to the government, living up to its stature as a domestic private sector organization dedicated to brand, design and trademarks in the intellectual property field.
