SKC launches the world’s first car window films that “block glare-causing yellow lights”
2018-01-26

Film enabling brighter and clearer vision with far less glare thanks to excellent visible light transmittance of 70%

Functional films serving as “blue light blocker” and “insect blocker” in the works

SKC (CEO Lee Wan-jae) has launched the world’s first car window films that block yellow lights, the major culprit of glare. The film lets the user see the outside of the vehicle regardless of outdoor conditions such as severe rain or fine dust, day and night, even in the hours when sunlight is strongest.

“Neosky” - the fruit of 40+ years’ know-how from manufacturing optical films combined with top-notch optical technologies

On the 24th, SKC announced the launch of “Neosky,” the window film with brighter vision and far less glare thanks to 40+ years’ know-how from manufacturing optical films and top-notch optical technologies. The film boasts of capabilities such as blocking 99+% of UV and 79.2% of heat (blocking infrared rays, 780~2500nm).

It also reduces eye fatigue by selectively blocking more than 60% of the yellow wavelength that causes glare and has the strongest energy among visible lights. SKC’s “Neosky” is the world’s first car window film that selectively blocks some of the visible lights.

The effect is more powerful when in a car in the morning when the sun is low or when driving in the direct direction of the sun in the afternoon. The driver can drive the car with far better safety and comfort even when facing the sun since the film blocks strong yellow light from the sun. In addition, the film lets the driver enjoy clear view and relatively more blue sky by reducing the light dispersion effect from dust on days when yellow dust is strong. The driver can look at the front more clearly even in a situation wherein a car is coming head-on in the opposite lane with the headlights on.

The film provides a brighter view of the outside thanks to its own brightness. More than 60% of colors other than yellow are blocked, with the film boasting of excellent visible light transmittance of 70%. That is a major difference from other window films that darken the view from inside the car by reducing all visible lights in order to decrease glare.

Moreover, Neosky contributes to safety by reducing the “white-out” effect, which leaves the driver with a distorted orientation when driving out of a tunnel. It also helps protect privacy as the vision from the outside is hampered further.

Already gaining immense popularity in the US, Europe, and Japan - Neosky for buildings planned for the 1st quarter of 2018

Global markets are already raving about Neosky. SKC has been selling Neosky in pilot markets such as the US, Europe, Japan, and some Southeast Asian countries, with remarkable results. Such responses made the company launch Neosky for cars in January this year, to be followed by Neosky for buildings in the 1st quarter.

“We announced our new vision of 'Global Specialty MARKETER' in October 2016, and we are working on expanding the film business to encompass those in demand for the future market such as transparent PI film and PVB film. Neosky is the start of a technology-intensive functional window film family that will include film that blocks blue light, which is not good for the human eyes, and anti-bug film to prevent access by insect by controlling the wavelength of lights, all of which will cause a paradigm shift in the market," said Lee Yong-seon, chief of SKC’s Industry Materials Business.

Neosky can be installed at the SK Skin Care Film store or any authorized auto mechanic that sells it. It costs about KRW 300,000 for the front window of a sedan. [End]
