Mitsui Chemicals & SKC Polyurethanes Inc., MCNS of PU JVC of SKC and Mitsui Chemical have made active efforts to advance into the Indian market by founding a system house in Chennai, India (MCNS Polyurethanes India Private Limited).

The system house is a production _ base_ for customer-tailored polyurethane products made by mixing additives into polyol or MDI materials. The region entered by MCNS has many key Korean and Japanese customers of PU (Polyurethane) products, including Hyundai Motors, Samsung Electronics, Toyota, and Nissan. MCNS had already explored the region as a priority target some time ago.

MCNS plans to begin the construction of the system house (capacity: 14,000 tons) in March and complete it within the year. It has already ordered the factory design service and begun the contractor selection procedure, while the liaison office is being converted into a corporation. Furthermore, the government of Andhra Pradesh state, where the system house will be built, has promised to provide speedy administrative and licensing support to assist the smooth foundation of the corporation and seamless construction of the factory.

India has become a major economic power with the world’s 7th largest GDP and a solid domestic market, with a population of 1.3 billion people. It is expected to maintain a high annual average growth rate of 7% per year. Notably, it produces 4 million cars and 900 refrigerators per year, indicating that the demand for PU products will continue to grow steadily.

Many Korean and Japanese manufacturers of cars and consumer electronic appliances are currently operating in India, with Korean and Japanese companies accounting for 70% of the cars and 50% of the refrigerators produced in India. MCNS plans to increase its supply to India while steadily continuing to supply high-quality products primarily to such companies through the system house.

MCNS is a 50:50 joint venture company between SKC and Mitsui Chemical that was founded by spinning off their respective polyurethane businesses. With a production capacity of 280,000 tons of polyol, 250,000 tons of MDI, and 120,000 tons of TDI, it supplies PU products to ten system houses around the world, including the USA, Mexico, China and Poland. MCNS plans to steadily increase its overseas system houses to other regions in addition to India, where rapid economic growth is expected, and to grow into a global PU maker by doubling its overseas product _ base_s by 2020.
